Client// Jaybird

Description// We did a top to bottom website redesign for Jaybird. Unfortunately in the end, a lot of the best effects were cut from the site that actually launched, but I have archived a couple of pages of what it was supposed to look like. One of my favorite parts to work on here was the subtle shattering headline effect, for which we made sprite sheets for each letter of the alphabet so this content could be dynamically updated. Another one that was fun was the 3-D spinning render that has hotspots following a bezier curve based on just a few defined coordinates. It’s not a complete site, but what we had was some great design with really fun development.

Description// This is a project that didn’t quite come to fruition at Super Top Secret, but we had all put so much work into it that I still want to show it off. We had all developers on hand simultaneously building an iOs, Android, and web app to display information from Jaybird’s new activity tracking sports band. I was solely in charge of developing the web app. Things fell apart between the agency and the client, so none of our apps were ever complete. I had a great time diving into meticulous world of data visualization. In order to keep with the design, I had to overlay and interact with both svgs and canvas to get all the effects in place. I also got to get into tweening some bezier drawn graphs. There’s obviously a lot that is not finished, but clicking around the widgets is pretty fun. The day views for sleep, activity, and go-zone are all done, but only activy has the week/month/year views finished.

Client// Seve vs. Evan

Description// Back when I was still in school I kind of got duped into building this website as part of a three-way trade. A friend of mine recorded an EP for my band that I played in at the time, and as payment, I needed to make a website for this band, Seve vs. Evan. I have no idea what Seve vs. Evan did for my friend. They wanted something fun but simple but I came up with this idea and ran with it, even though it was way above an beyond what was asked of me. It was because I was still in school and trying to get a job and a portfolio together, and I had this idea for a killer portfolio piece. I based the whole website around a side-scrolling video game, and I cut almost all of the graphical elements out of construction paper, 3 times each to make the jumbled effect. I based all the characters off of sketches drawn by both Severin and Evan, who are like real life Napoleon Dynamite man children. I was just beginning to code at the time, so this was a big time learning project for me. Even though the source code makes me sick to look at now, years later it is still one of my most proud projects.

Client// Popchips
Archived Link// facebook.com/popchips
Description// Another project built during my time at Super Top Secret, this was a Facebook app for a then up and coming alternative potato chip brand. The original project was fully integrated into Facebook, and would load in all of your friends, of which you could choose one to insert into one of 8 videos and share on their wall. Overwhelming backlash at racist nature of the campaign (campaign was developed outside of Super Top Secret, by the way, we were simply handling development) quickly made the rounds on the internet under the hashtag “#brownface” caused a panic at Popchips, requesting the immediate removal of the Raj character. Following that, the public then demanded the removal of the Darl character as well and with that, Popchips had us take the whole thing down. Overall, this was a very fun to build and hilariously short-lived dive into motion tracking and Facebook integration.
